This policy covers the LimBear Android app (package com.limbear) and limbear.com. LimBear is operated by John Crandlemire, High River, Alberta, Canada. Contact: [email protected].

The short version

You can use LimBear right away on your phone, and your data stays on your device: workouts, programs, nutrition logs and settings. Data leaves your phone only when you use a feature that needs it, as described below.

Data stored on your device

• Workouts, sets, reps, holds, weights, personal records and progress.
• Programs you write, import or buy, and your program quiz answers (such as pain level, symptoms, equipment and schedule) used to build your plan.
• Nutrition and body weight logs.
• App settings, and your Gemini API key if you add one, which is stored encrypted on the device.

Features that send data off your device

• AI nutrition estimates (optional). When you add your own Google Gemini API key and ask for an estimate, LimBear sends the food photo, scale photo or food description you choose directly to Google's Gemini API using your key. Google handles that data under its own terms and privacy policy.
• Barcode and food search. When you scan a barcode or search for a food, LimBear sends the barcode number or search words to Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org) to look up nutrition facts.
• Camera. LimBear asks for camera access to scan barcodes and take food or scale photos. Barcode scanning runs on your device with Google ML Kit. Photos go to Gemini only when you request an AI estimate.
• Exercise images. LimBear downloads exercise pictures from a public exercise image library hosted on GitHub. These requests carry standard network information such as your IP address.
• Purchases. Subscriptions and program purchases go through Google Play Billing. Google processes your payment details; LimBear receives only the purchase status needed to unlock what you bought.
• Backups. Pro backups and CSV, JSON or ZIP exports are saved to a file or folder you pick. Android's own device backup may also include LimBear data in your Google account backup, according to your phone's backup settings.

Analytics and ads

LimBear is ad-free. App usage events go to a local debug log, and LimBear keeps that data on your phone.

Permissions

• Internet: for the features above.
• Camera: barcode scanning and food or scale photos.
• Notifications and vibration: workout timers, reminders and the status bar display.
• Run at startup and foreground service: restores reminders after a restart and keeps the status bar display up to date.
• Google Play Billing: purchases.

Your choices

You control your data. You can export it, delete entries in the app, remove your Gemini API key, revoke camera access in Android settings, or uninstall LimBear to delete all app data from your phone.

LimBear is intended for adults.

LimBear programs are general exercise guidance. Please check with your clinician before you start a condition program.

Changes

Updates to this policy will appear on this page with a new effective date.
